![]() ![]() The triangulated findings reveal that visual mapping techniques proved as a scaffold for comprehension, summarization and revision tools, creative thinking, critical thinking and problem-solving tools, and diagnostic assessment tools, besides fostering learning engagement, collaboration, retention, and motivation. Following an action research paradigm, the study employed a variety of qualitative data collection methods such as pre-and-post interviews, classroom observations, audio-recording of group discussions, stimulated recall, analysis of student artefacts, and reflection writing. Three sections of grade ten students were reoriented on the elements, trained to use the three visual mapping techniques, namely concept map, mind map and visual metaphors, and allowed self and collaborative practice with the four prescribed short stories. This study investigated the effects of the use of integrated visual mapping techniques by the tenth graders on their comprehension of short stories. ![]() However, students fail to engage in such meaningful thinking about the content or information due to a lack of knowledge about cognitive-based learning strategies. The meaningful study of short stories involves comprehension, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of its varied elements to garner a holistic understanding. ![]()
